Senior synonym of Dasyatis thetidis and Dasyatis ushiei; and Eastern Atlantic populations of Bathytoshia centroura refer to Bathytoshia lata according to Last et al, 2016 (Ref. 114953). Corrections will be done in FishBase.

Found on sand or mud bottoms, sometimes near coral reefs (Ref. 12951). Benthic (Ref. 58302). Feeds on crabs, prawns and small bony fishes (Ref. 114953). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 50449).

Exhibit ovoviparity (aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures (Ref. 50449).
