Northwest Pacific: around Vladivostok, Russia Federation southward to the Gulf of Tonkin.
Common in estuaries and in association with Zostera and other vegetation. Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed (Ref. 12114, 12115). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Used in Chinese medicine (Ref. 12166).
