WhyWhere offers biogeographic modelling at the San Diego Supercomputer Center in the US.
Click here to learn more about WhyWhere and for instructions on how to use their interface. Below we display point data from cached GBIF, OBIS and FishBase data in a format that facilitates transfer to WhyWhere.
  1. The data below show Longitude in the left and Latitude in the right column, both in decimal degrees. They have been sorted from West (-) to East (+) and from North (+) to South (-), to facilitate editing, which is needed for most species because of outliers and errors. Click here to display a map showing the points. Then do your corrections, deletions or additions.
  2. Highlight the block of numbers below and copy them into memory (Ctrl+Insert in Windows). To highlight simply click 'Select All' button.
  3. Click on the 'WhyWhere Modelling' link below to get to their form page, where you go to the 'Data points' section and paste the point data in (Shift+Insert in Windows). Then press the 'Submit query' button.
