Dear FishBase Guestbook users,

Welcome to our new and improved site!

In the past, spammers have succeeded in making our guestbook unusable. Thus, in our aspiration to keep the site as simple as possible yet functional, we came up with this new version protected by a captcha system. We have checked and cleaned the database, keeping all good postings. However, note that the record numbers are tentative, we may need to change them in the coming months, and that the site is without registration at the moment. Please bear with us as we continuously develop this site to maximize service to fish enthusiasts all over the world. Feel free to comment on this version and make suggestions for improvements.

Lastly, may we clarify that the Guestbook is where you may express your thoughts about our website and/or provide comments on our work which donít necessarily need a response. If you wish to make technical comments and inquiries that needs scientific responses from experts in our team or other entities/groups that wishes to share their knowledge on the subject at hand, then you may use our Fish Forum for that purpose.

Our very best regards.

I noted in looking at some of the information contained in your website that the maximum published weight of the species "Pink Happy" is shown as 2,9 K. I caught a Pink Happy near the Kazungula Ferry Crossing on the Zambesi River, Zimbabwe, in July 2005 which weighed 3,1 K. This catch was witnessed and recorded by a senior member of the Zimbabwe Angling Society and has subsequently been acknowledged as a new Zimbabwe record. Due to the circumstances in Zimbabwe it is unlikely that there has been any recent publication of new record catches. I now live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but I can provide further evidence of this catch for your records if it should be of interest. regards, Walter Hart.

Hi Guys, fantastic site for reference material and detail. I am a recreational angler, and what we are trying to do is ascertain "approximate" weight to length measurements to our two most common fresh water species viz. Barble (Clarias Gariepinus) and the common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) (I hope). We have obtained most Salt water l/w relationships locally, which seem to have been sourced from your site. Can u help with the above Fresh water species? I must tell you I am no mathematician or scientist - so go gently on the information overload - simple is good.

This is such an excellent resource. We are working on something similar (though much smaller, for the foreseeable future) dealing with zooplankton, located at ZoopBase.org. I hope you don't mind the homage in our name - we are great admirers of what you've done here, and we cleared it with someone there a while back. Again, great work - easily the best- built specialist scientific database in the world. Thanks.

Dear FishBase, I am a retired ichthyologist (University of Alabama, USA) and presently writing articles about fishes for the MCGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. I have relied heavily on FishBase for information on the fishes of the world, and I want to let you know I appreciate your making it available. I, of course, acknowledge FishBase at all appropriate times. Thank you very much. My expertice is more or less limited the the fishes of southeastern United States. I noticed gaps in your coverage of this area and will be glad to help with some species accounts whenever I finish the present project which shoud be about March. 2007. Sincerely, Herb Boschung
