unknown fish species
Description : Hello, I want to know what species is in two pictures attached to this message. The species was introduced to Papua New Guinea, live in streams and reach considerable sizes (around 1 m). Thanks a lot!

You are right Pete, that is an adipose fin (on the left ;-), which I believe make them (very big) "Curimbata" (Prochilodus lineatus)(http://tinyurl.com/32ffm), at least if they from the Sepik or Ramu rivers.

Please send another picture to the Forum showing the area immediately posterior to the dorsal fin. I believe I can see an adipose fin on the fish to the right, which would make these a Prochilodus sp., possibly P. nigricans, seemingly another example of a shockingly ill-advised introduction.

I looks very much like a Labeo sp. to me, perhaps "Rohu" (Labeo rohita)(http://tinyurl.com/3ezrb) or even Labeo dyocheilus (http://tinyurl.com/3auff)
