Bellfish
Description : last night my roommate who is from China originally was cleaning fresh fish in our kitchen and it was wihout a doubt the most horrible smelling affair i have had the misfortune to endure lately. He explain that he was preparing Bellfish. I have never heard of such a fish (and have worked in restaurants for over 20 years). What is the story on this rancid smelling delicacy? Where does it come from? Is this a fish only chinese people eat?

There are some fish with a cucumber-like smell, such as the Argentine and the European smelt. The Common stinkfish has an acid small from the slime covering its body. The Double-lined mackerel has an ammonia-like smell. The Sky emperor may have an unpleasant 'coral' smell and taste. The Spangled emperor may have a coppery or iodine taste or smell. And there are several other 'Stinkfish' which you can find in FishBase.
